Although third-party devices have yet to receive the base version of Android Nougat, Google has announced that the new 7.1 version will go live for Nexus devices soon.

According to the post on the Google Android developer's blog, the new Android 7.1 Nougat will release its developer preview soon. This means that Google is readying the updated version of the new platform, and it will likely release the new preview version to Nexus devices soon.

While Google has not specified when the full version of Android 7.1 will launch, the company has revealed that a timeline schedule has been pegged before the year ends. Google stated, "At the final release of the Android 7.1.x platform, due in early December, we'll roll out updates to the full lineup of supported devices."

The post adds that the Android 7.1 full version will roll out for "Nexus 6, 5X, 6P, 9, Player, Pixel C, and supported Android One devices — as well as Pixel and Pixel XL devices."

To date, only the Google Pixel and Pixel XL are on the new updated platform. However, the two devices were launched with the base update, Android Nougat 7.1.0.

As for access to the new platform, the post did say that the developer preview will launch later this month. This means that those who are enrolled in the betting program for Android development will get a sneak peek on the new platform update as early as October.

Outside of the Nexus lineup, third-party devices are likely to get the updated platform starting next year. This is likely since tech makers, like Samsung, HTC, and others. have yet to update their devices to the base version, the Android Nougat 7.0. However, Google has stated that: "We're working with our partners to bring Android 7.1 to devices in the ecosystem over the months ahead, so we recommend downloading the Android 7.1 Developer Preview as soon as it's available. Test your apps for compatibility and optimize them to look their best, such as by providing circular app icons and adding app shortcuts."
