Speculations suggest that Google will be releasing its newest platform, Android 7.0 Nougat, this month. It is expected that the first to receive the updates are the Google-run Nexus devices. However, it seems only recent releases will receive the new platform as rumors suggest that the new Android version will not be available for the Nexus 5 and older devices.
Previously, it was thought that Google would be releasing the full version of Android Nougat at its annual company I/O Conference. However, the tech giant only laid out a schedule for its new platform, with at least five beta versions before the final build. With Developer Preview 5 releasing last month, it is said that the full version of Android 7.0 is already waiting for its release.
Meanwhile, before coming to Android-run devices from other tech manufacturers, Google will most likely roll it out first to the Nexus lineup. According to KnowYourMobile, however, older-gen devices starting with the Nexus 5 will not be getting Android Nougat. This means that the new platform will only roll out to the current Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, as well as Nexus 6 smartphones. The new platform is also expected to come out for the Nexus 9 tablet and the Pixel lineup.
As for when other non-Nexus devices can expect the new update, the new Android Nougat platform may roll out beginning late 2016. Some manufacturers like HTC have already announced an early adoption to Android 7.0 once the full version releases. Meanwhile, there are also speculations that since Google has tweaked the update process for the new platform, rolling out Android Nougat for all Android devices will be much faster than the adoption of previous Android versions. With the current-gen Android Marshmallow, reports mention that only around 15 percent of capable devices have been updated to Android 6.0.1.
