Android N specs, features rumor: New Android platform to fully support VR?

 Android Developers blog

Google has just released a new version of the developer preview of its upcoming Android N platform. Speculations suggest that one major feature will make Android N stand out, as it is said that the upcoming version will have full VR support features.

According to Ars Technica, buried within the Android N apps are two hints on virtual reality features. Reportedly, navigating in the Settings and Apps tabs in Android N will let users access features called "VR Listener" and "VR Helper." Checking the permissions for the services display tags that states the apps "... will be able to run when you are using applications in virtual reality mode." This means that there will be features in Android N that will take advantage of VR tech, and the platform itself integrates a "virtual reality mode."

The Verge believes that Google is readying another push into VR territory, as it is apparently alluded to in a previous report from a third-party industry observer. This new project reportedly comes in the wake of the Google Cardboard one. However, the new VR-related project will offer full support to the fledgling industry, and there are even talks that Google is ready with a Gear VR-like device, a stand-alone VR system that will work independent of a smartphone or a PC.

Meanwhile, Google has yet to set when fans can expect a full, consumer version of the upcoming Android N platform. According to speculations, the tech giant has plans to showcase the new Android version in next month's company-sponsored event, the annual Google I/O Conference. Interestingly, speculations also place Google to be readying a full reveal of the Android N platform at the event, complete with launching devices pre-installed with Android 7.0. Rumors say that Android N will feature in a new and refreshed Nexus 7 (2016) tablet, as well as at least two new Nexus smartphones from HTC or Huawei.
