Android N release date: Official name tipped to be unveiled soon

Speculations suggest that Google will release the full version of Android N soon, as the tech conglomerate is said to be readying the announcement of its confectionery name.

In a Twitter post, Google confirmed that it is ready to reveal the name for the new Android 7.0 platform, and rumors say that much like its past iterations, the company will name the Android N with a sweets-inspired name like Nougat, Nectar, or Nutella.

Since the start of Android, all previous full rversions were named after desserts and sweets like the current-gen Marshamallow, and its predecessors Kitkat and Ice Cream Sandwich.

With the announcement to come out soon, this also means that the survey to name the next Android platform has already ended. Google launched a "Name the Android N" poll, where fans may submit a name for Android 7. It is unclear if Google will pick a name that has gotten the most votes, or if the tech manufacturer will choose the most pleasant-sounding one.

Meanwhile, it is said that the full release of Android N may come out next month. At the recently concluded Google I/O Conference, the company showcased the new features of the upcoming Android platform. However, Google revealed that the full version of Android N is not yet ready, and the development team has in mind at least five beta versions before releasing Android 7.0 to the public. To date, the Android N beta test is still on its third developer preview.

According to observers, Google has chosen to branch out to multitasking features for Android N, since its new options include multi-window mode, the Windows 10-inspired Seamless updates feature, and immediate app switch overviews. In addition, Google is also embracing virtual reality content, as Android N is said to integrate VR support.
