Android N release date news: Next Android iteration arriving in September?

 Android Developers blog

Previous rumors say that the new Android N platform will be released soon. However, with the new version still in its testing stages, it can be expected that the Android N full version will take some time to roll out, maybe even later in the year.

According to Yibada, Google has published a schedule roadmap for its Android N platform. Reportedly, the seventh-gen firmware update will come out as a full version in September. Prior to that, there are still at least three more developer oreview versions (the current one is the second-gen), with preview 3 launching this month, and preview 4 and 5 launching in June and July. Meanwhile, as with previous Android platform releases, Android N 7.0 will roll out first for the Nexus lineup of products. However, it remains to be seen what products in the lineup will get the new platform, since new Android versions usually have specs requirements that are found only in recent releases.

Google's Android, while being preferred by both tech-savvy and casual users, takes a long time to release its full version to the different Android-run flagships. Usually, the stock Android ROM is released first to the Nexus lineup. Flagship devices from tech manufacturers need to wait for some time since most companies just take the stock Android ROM firmware and build their own layered software. The same is true with carrier-locked devices.

However, unlike previous Android rollouts, it is expected that the Android N release will roll out much more quickly to non-Nexus devices. Recently, Google released the developer preview version of the Android N beta outside of the Nexus lineup. Android 7.0 is undergoing beta tests for the Sony Xperia Z3. Since Google has opened up its development of Android N outside of its devices, tech manufacturers and carriers will have an earlier base version to build their Android N firmware.
