Android Marshmallow update rolling out to Asus ZenFone 2 Laser, ZenFone Max

Asus has previously confirmed that the Android Marshmallow update will roll out starting Q2 for its ZenFone lineups. Recently, the company has rolled out the current-gen Android platform or the ZenFone 2 Laser and the ZenFone Max.

In the announcement posted on the official Asus forums, it was revealed that although the Android 6.0 update for the ZenFone 2 Laser started early last month, the roll out is expected to last for some time.

Meanwhile, some users have yet to get the final updates for the Android Marshmallow upgrade, since the update itself has been pushed out in a staggered basis. Nonetheless, like previous major Android updates, ZenFone 2 Laser owners can manually check if the update is already available for their phones even without receiving push notifications. Refreshing the System Update option in the Setting > About tabs will automatically download the Android 6.0 system for the device.

Meanwhile, another announcement has been put up — this time for the Android Marshmallow release for the ZenFone Max. The new update brings the build version to 13.8.26.31. The new update is similar to previous Marshmallow updates that Asus rolled out for other ZenFone 2 variants, since the release notes also indicate that the new platform is not compatible with the App2SD feature for ZenFone lineups. This means that app data stored in the expandable storage will be deleted once the update finishes. Asus advises users to transfer back app data to the internal storage first before downloading and installing the Android 6.0 update.

With the update, Asus joins other tech manufacturers in continuously rolling out Android Marshmallow to their lineups, although the release comes a little late. Google has rolled out the current-gen platform late last year and has even updated Android M to 6.0.1. However, the updates have yet to reach all Android-run devices, since it is revealed that only around 10% of total compatible devices are on Android Marshmallow.
