Android Marshmallow 6.0 update: Nvidia Shield Android TV updated to Marshmallow; adoptable storage goes live

 Nvidia Shield Official Blog

While it can be said that the Android Marshmallow update seems to take too long as tech manufacturers have yet to completely roll out the new platform to their flagship devices, fans will at least see that the update is an all-encompassing one, showcasing the Android platform's wide range. Just recently, another flagship device, Nvidia's Shield Android TV, joined the growing list of Android 6.0-enabled devices.

In their announcement on the official company blog, Nvidia stressed that one of the most useful features that the Android M update introduced to the Shield Android TV is its version of adoptable storage. According to the post, the Shield Android TV can now encrypt external storage devices and treat a microSD or a USB drive as an expanded internal storage. This means that users will be able to install more apps and games in the Shield.

This feature has been highlighted lately, as some tech manufacturers have reportedly shunned this Android M option. Recently, it was found out that the LG G5 and Samsung Galaxy S7 will not be adopting this feature.

Android Police said adoptable storage will make the Nvidia Shield Android TV all the more formidable. According to the industry follower, the Shield Android TV can easily be described as the best set-top box currently out in the market, compared against other Android-run streaming devices.

The observer also outlined the other features going live with the Android M update in Shield Android TV, particularly the improvements in user interface and home screen.

Meanwhile, the new update will also unlock Vulkan support, according to XDA Developers. This means that the Shield Android TV will be able to download and access apps and games more efficiently since they are made with the new Vulkan API, which is not supported in previous versions.
