Android 6.0 Marshmallow release date, features: Galaxy S5 Plus to be followed by S5 Mini and 2016 Galaxy J3

While Google is already doing finishing touches to the upcoming Android N platform, most devices have yet to get the Android Marshmallow update. Tech manufacturer Samsung continues to roll out the Android M notification to its numerous lineups.

The latest to get the Android Marshmallow release is the Galaxy S5 Plus, with other flagships reportedly to follow soon.

According to SamMobile, the Android M firmware file is already available through third-party websites online, so the more tech-savvy users of the Galaxy S5 Plus can flash and update their devices manually. Meanwhile, the OTA update is released on a staggered basis, and may roll out throughout the entire week. Owners of the Galaxy S5 Plus can also check the Settings > About device tabs and refresh the Software Update option to check if the update is ready to download, even without receiving the OTA notification first.

The Galaxy S5 Plus is the step-up version to Samsung's Galaxy S5 flagship, with tweaks and improvements over the base model. Instead of a Snapdragon 801 chipset, the updated flagship carries a newer Snapdragon 805 processor.

Meanwhile, it is also expected that another iteration in the lineup, the Galaxy S5 Mini, will also be updated to Android Marshmallow. The flagship has been spotted in a certification site, listing Android 6.0 as its platform. In addition, speculations suggest that recent mid-range releases like the 2016 edition of the Galaxy J3 will also be updated from their Android Lollipop versions.

Aside from the Galaxy S series flagships, Samsung also continues to roll out the Android Marshmallow update to another flagship lineup, the Galaxy Note. Recently, the global unlocked version of the Galaxy Note 4 received the OTA notification for Android 6.0 update. Devices in several European regions as well as Asian markets have begun updating to the current Android version.
