Android 6.0 Marshmallow update: Android M platform finally rolls out to Xperia Z2 and Z3 series

 Official Sony Mobile Website

Google is reportedly already in its final stages of development of the Android N platform. However, some flagships have yet to receive their Android M update. Users of the Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3, and Xperia Z3 Compact can tick their devices off the waiting list as Sony Mobile officially rolls out the full version of Android M to the flagships.

According to Xperia Blog, the full version of Android Marshmallow has already rolled out to the flagship lineups. However, not all versions of the flagship iterations will get Android M. Reportedly, only the models that participated in the Android Concept beta program from the tech giant will get the Android Marshmallow version at this time. The new platform will only roll out to the Xperia Z2 model D6503, Xperia Z3 model D6603, and Xperia Z3 Compact model D5803 only.

While Sony Mobile has already started rolling out the Android M update, it may take some time for all the units with the same model number to receive their Android update OTA notification. Users can manually check if their devices can already update to the latest Android build. Meanwhile, the blog also listed the firmware files for the updates, and the more tech-savvy users can download and install the Android M files manually.

Android Authority says that Sony Mobile may have fast-tracked the Xperia builds first because the models themselves are the ones that are first participants in the Android beta program. This means that the final Android M build will be more suitable to the Xperia models. Meanwhile, the industry follower added that those who are under the same flagship lineups but have different model numbers will need to wait a bit longer for their Android M release, though it may be soon after the current roll-out is finished. However, those who have carrier-locked Xperia Z2 and Z3 devices will need to wait a bit more, as carrier-specific updates are usually the last ones to roll out.
