After riots, London kids dream

Kids from the riot-hit London borough of Tottenham have released a single with a different vision for the area and their future.

According to Keep the Faith magazine, "Everybody Dreams" came out last Sunday and coincided with a visit to the House of Commons where they sang to the Speaker of the House, John Bercow MP.

The song has been written by the pupils of Gladesmore Community School.

They hope the song will change the world's perception of Tottenham after the violence of last summer.

One of the singers, 15-year-old Kimarne Henry, said: "Our single 'Everybody Dreams' is the voice of the young people at Gladesmore saying to the world that great things do come out of Tottenham, and that despite what occurred during last year's riots, the area is filled with young people who are full of dreams and aspirations and we want to encourage others to do the same."

The pupils have previously given a performance of their song on the steps of St Paul's Cathedral and will be singing it again tomorrow when they appear at the Soho Arts Festival.

For the music video, the students stopped the traffic to perform a flash mob dance routine in the middle of Tottenham High Road.

Local retailers who were forced to close their doors because of the riots last year. This time round, they were only too happy to shut up shop for something positive and support the efforts of the youngsters.

Janet Cooke, owner of Cookes Estates on Tottenham High Road said: "I think what the pupils from GCS are doing is excellent. Not only is the song brilliant, the video recording was great and it comes from the heart of the kids. I believe this son will do more for Tottenham than any of our politicians, councillors, or other officials."
