5 Bible verses for when you're weary and need rest

We find real rest in Christ. Pixabay

In a world full of stressful situations, rest seems to be a luxury. With God, however, rest isn't hard to find.

This is because God created rest.

The Lord Himself invites everyone who is weary from the worries and troubles of this life to come to Him, trust in Him, and find rest in Him.

"All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."" (Matthew 11:27-30)

We find our rest in Christ, simply because He is the Son of God sent for the salvation of mankind.

His finished work allows us to receive God's forgiveness and love, allowing us to cease from our misery. Because of Him, we are now enabled to face every trial and hardship from a position of security and victory - that no matter what troubles we face, we're assured of His love and mercy.

Finding real rest

To help us rest in the Lord Jesus Christ, here are a few Bible verses we need to think of, pray about, meditate on, and hold on to.

Freedom from the fear of eternal condemnation - John 3:16-17

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."

Freedom from the burden of the law of sin and death - Romans 8:1-4

"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit."

Freedom from the bondage of sin - Romans 8:12-15

"Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father.""

Freedom from worrying about the bad things that can happen to us - Romans 8:28

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."

Freedom through the love of God which cannot be taken away from us - Romans 8:35-39

"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written:

"For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
