Windows OS users who want to upgrade their operating system can start their countdown as the final build and the official version of Windows 10 is bound for release in late summer or early fall of 2015.

Microsoft's chief operating officer Kevin Turner elaborated the timeline of the company as well as its plans for next year at the Credit Suisse technology conference last week. According to Turner, the company is still on track with the progress of Windows 10. The company is set to unveil a developer preview in early summer and is set to roll out the OS by late summer to early fall. It is still too early to announce the exact release date of the OS.

Meanwhile, Microsoft just rolled out the Technical Preview of the OS for testing and scrutiny. The company encouraged people who joined the testing to give their feedback, which will largely help the developers in further improving the software as well as in sweeping bugs for a smooth release.

"As an Insider, you can provide feedback directly to our engineers by using the Windows Feedback app which is part of the Tech Preview download. Simply search for 'Windows Feedback' from the search box," Gabe Aul, Engineering General Manager for the Operating Systems Group at Microsoft, told participants thru email.

Microsoft will release the Windows 10 Consumer Preview in January next year packed with several new features. The company will reportedly hold a press event later that month to announce the preview.

Windows 10 will become a unified, cross-platform OS and will work across Windows-based PCs, smartphones, tablets, and other wearables. This will battle with the new unified Mac OS and iOS. Also, Windows 10 will have a single homescreen, unlike Windows 8. The forthcoming Windows 10 will be a fusion of Windows 7 and 8. More features are set to appear next year.
