'Undertale' release date news: RPG classic coming to Switch

In accordance with Nintendo's recently concluded Direct presentation event, a new role-playing game (RPG) classic port in the form of Toby Fox's "Undertale" is now set for a release on the Switch sometime this 2018.

Creator Fox expressed his excitement for the game's port, saying that he has always been a big fan of Nintendo, especially Mario.

"I'm a big fan of Nintendo. I hope Mario plays my game," the "Undertale" originator said.

In line with the announcement, fans were treated to an inside look at the upcoming port through a trailer, which dropped the same time the game was confirmed.

Although now confirmed, the game's release date is still up for debate as Nintendo did not release a specific date of release aside from a window launch date of 2018.

Newsweek suggests that "Undertale" for the Switch console will see a release sometime late this summer or early fall. In previous ports for other consoles, the game saw a release between the months of July and September. They add that the game will probably follow this timeline of release. On top of this, the release will probably coincide with Game Maker studio's support launch, which, similarly, was left undated.

Gameplay-wise, the new port will see players take on the role of a human who wanders off into the underground world of monsters. Users are then tasked to help the protagonist navigate through the dangerous underground monster world either by talking their way out or by slaying away into safety.

"Undertale" first saw a release on the PC platform on 2015 — on Windows and Mac. A linux port followed suit in July 2016. Due to its increasing popularity, it was also ported for Sony's consoles back in 2017 — on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.

"Undertale" is set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch sometime this 2018. Fans should keep a lookout for further notices from Nintendo on the specific release date details, which will likely be announced in the coming weeks.
