'Thor: Ragnarok' plot spoilers: epic fight between Thor and Thanos; Loki to die?

According to a new report from Cinema Blend, Chris Hemsworth's Thor might be facing Thanos in the upcoming "Thor: Ragnarok," the third film in the "Thor" franchise.

Thanos, known as the Mad Titan, was last seen during the mid-credits scene of "Avengers: Age of Ultron" where he retrieved one of the Infinity Gauntlets. The Gauntlet can grant its bearer unlimited power but only if it has all of the Infinity Gems in it. According to the report, Thanos might assault Asgard in order to get the Tesseract, which is home to the Space Stone.

Thor, on the other hand, headed back to Asgard to learn more about the Infinity Stones, unaware that his evil brother Loki is now posing as their father Odin.

The report points out that Thanos might be responsible for the destruction of Asgard and may even be responsible for introducing the villain Surtur if the film follows the basic plotline of Ragnarok in Norse mythology. Surtur hasn't been confirmed to be in the film but fans have speculated that he is the most likely villain in the film other than Thanos.

According to Cinema Blend, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige previously stated that "Thor: Ragnarok" is one of the most important films in phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it will affect all of the other films moving forward. It is possible that the destruction of Asgard would signal the arrival of Thanos, the villain which will highlight "Avengers: Infinity War" parts 1 and 2.

A report from Yibada also points out that Loki might die in this film. In the Ragnarok tale of Norse mythology, Loki is killed by Heimdall. This might happen in the film although it's also possible that instead of Heimdall ending Loki's life, it could be Thanos, completing the story arc between Thor and Loki's brotherly rivalry which sparked since the first "Thor" film.

"Thor: Ragnarok" opens in theaters nationwide on Nov. 3, 2017.
