'Terminator 6' movie release date, plot rumors: Filming to start in May, casting details revealed

Arnold Schwarzenegger to reunite with original "Terminator" co-star Linda Hamilton in franchise reboot Paramount

The sixth installment of the futuristic, action movie series "Terminator" will start filming in May with a new protagonist set to topbill the new film.

The movie reboot is set to bring back former hit makers Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton to grace the robot, action remake. James Cameron is joining the comeback, too -- not as the reboot's director but as a creative consultant for the upcoming movie.

Besides starting filming in May, casting details have also been shared -- with a young female protagonist by the name of Dani Ramos said to be top-billing the new iteration of the "Terminator" franchise.

Currently, no one has been cast to play the titular role. The search for a suitable actress to play the lead role is still ongoing -- which made the original filming date of March to be moved to May.

According to reports, the movie is going to start anew, ignoring the events that transpired after "Terminator 2."

The last installment of the film, "Terminator: Genisys," had a less than stellar performance in the domestic box-office. It caused several rumors to erupt that Paramount is cancelling the film series. However, the movie's $350.8 million international gross ultimately saved it from being forced into early retirement.

The latest film in the renewed franchise will be helmed by acclaimed "Deadpool" director Tim Miller, with help from series originator Cameron.

The new movie in the roster of "Terminator" films is intended for a release on July 26, 2019. Movie shooting sites for the movie include locations in the United Kingdom and Spain.

The first film in the "Terminator" franchise first debuted in 1984, shooting Arnold Schwarzenegger into international fame. Schwarzenegger went on to reprise his roles as the menacing robot soldier from the future two more times -- namely in "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" and "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines."
