'Suicide Squad 2' spoilers: Diablo's return teased in new photo

El Diablo, Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn, Dead Shot, and Rick Flag in "Suicide Squad" Warner Bros.

A fallen member of the team could be returning in "Suicide Squad 2."

As the sequel moves forward at Warner Bros., the cast has already started getting back into shape. Joel Kinnaman, also known as the franchise's Rick Flag, recently posted a photo from the gym on Instagram. Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) is there, as well as their trainer. However, the most intriguing part is that Jay Hernandez is also present in the picture.

"Brendan whipping us back into shape. Jay puked," Kinnaman wrote in the caption. Check out the photo below:

Hernandez's character, El Diablo, seemingly died after sacrificing himself in the first film. Although it has not been specified what the workout was for, many took the photo as a hint that he may be reprising his role in the second installment, too.

During the climactic fight with CGI baddie, Incubus (Alain Chanoine), El Diablo turned into a giant fiery devil to subdue the entity and sacrificed himself to detonate a bomb. He was presumed dead since; although it stands to reason he would survive, with fire being his thing and all.

DC Comics has long brought back characters from the dead. "Justice League," for one, just did that with Henry Cavill's Superman, so Diablo finding his way back to the living is not far-fetched at all.

Then again, there is a chance their reunion is not really for the second movie. Maybe Hernandez just joined Kinnaman and Courtney in their workout. However, the wording "getting back into shape" combined with its timing to the sequel's nearing fall production does raise eyebrows regarding Hernandez' involvement. For now, fans will have to wait and see.

Currently, little to nothing is known about the plot of "Suicide Squad 2," but more information should surface in the coming months. Written and directed by Gavin O'Connor, the sequel is expected to arrive sometime in 2019.
