Star Wars: Episode 8 spoilers: Luke Skywalker rumored to be strong focal point in the movie

Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker Lucasfilm

Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) had a very short scene in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" to the point where it was just a glorified cameo. But according to a report from Cinema Blend, the legendary Jedi may have new powers and become a strong focal point in the sequel, the untitled "Star Wars: Episode VIII."

According to a report, a rumor has been spreading about from a single Reddit post stating Luke Skywalker will have Jedi powers that have never been seen in any of the previous films. While the Sith have the ability to shoot chain lightning at their targets, Luke will exhibit the ability to combust materials and make them explode.

The original post states that therre will be a point in the film where Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) are in a hut located on Luke's world, Ahch-To. Angered by their feud, Luke uses his Force powers to make the hut disintegrate or blow up, although he does this without harming either of the two occupants.

It is undetermined if this occurs during the present or if it occurred in the past. In "The Force Awakens" it is hinted that Rey and Luke have been together before until Kylo Ren betrayed the Jedi Order and slaughtered every other padawan before he joined the First Order and the Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis).

The report points out that there is still a very high probability of this being no more than a rumor and that the scene may not appear in the final product but if it does it will exhibit new Jedi powers. Previous films only saw the Jedi use the Force for mind manipulation, telekenisis, and lightsaber fighting but never to combust or destroy.

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" is currently in production and will premiere in theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
