'Scandal' season 5 spoilers: Mellie will fight back

Scandal season 4 ABC

After her husband found out that she was working for the B613 black ops, First Lady-turned-Senator Mellie Grant is now out of the White House. But that does not mean that she will just accept her fate. "Scandal" season 5 is expected to show what she plans to do next.

Bellamy Young, the actress who portrays the role of the cold and manipulative Mellie Grant in Shonda Rhimes' critically acclaimed political thriller, recently talked to Hollywood Life to discuss her character's plans when "Scandal" season 5 premieres in September.

According to the actress, she cannot imagine Mellie accepting President Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) decision to kick her out of the White House, and believes that she will do everything to fight back. Young said that if she could have it her way, she wants Mellie and the President to be in better circumstances.

"I hope ultimately that Mellie is president and Fitz is by her side and he loves her so much again and they've weathered that Olivia (Kerry Washington) storm, and now they're together and it's happiness," the actress said.

But Young's wish for Mellie and Fitz might not happen since the President and Olivia seemed to have weathered their own relationship storm. They even shared a passionate kiss at the end of season 4.

Still, the actress said that whatever happens to Mellie's future, she will always be grateful for having the chance to play the role of a character that she described as a "gift of a lifetime," and she praised the people behind the conceptualization of the role.

"I never know what part I'll serve in the narrative. I could be the good guy or be the bad guy. Bless our writing staff and Shonda Rhimes, they make really complicated humans," Young stated.

Aside from finding out how Mellie will plot her revenge against her estranged husband and his equally fierce lover, fans of the show should also look out for the new Gladiator who will help Olivia work on her cases.

Cornelius Smith Jr.'s character Marcus Walker, the activist who worked with Olivia in one of her cases back in season 4, has been confirmed to return as a series regular next season. However, details about his participation in the show are still unrevealed.

"Scandal" season 5 is slated to premiere on Sept. 24 on ABC.
