'Prison Break' season 5 Michael's fake death to be explained

 Fox

"Prison Break" went off the air several years back but it has been confirmed to return for a fifth season. However, the show will be bringing back Wentworth Miller as Michael Scofield, who apparently died in the film "The Final Break." According to Ecumenical News, how Michael faked his death will be a big focus in the new season.

In the film, Michael ended up sacrificing himself in order to let Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies) break out of prison. The scene showcased Michael being killed by an electrical surge. In the fourth and final season of the show, it was also revealed that he was terminally ill with a brain disease and was later operated on by the Company.

Michael's death in the series' film proved as the biggest twist so far, but fan speculations have pointed out that Michael may have plotted to fake his death from the very beginning in order to prepare to fight the Company within the shadows, without them knowing he still exists.

Several months back, a report from Entertainment Weekly confirmed that season 5 will start right where season 4 ended and would most likely reveal exactly how Michael managed to fake his demise. However, this does not immediately remove the possibility of a time jump that may propel the story several years forward to the present time.

It is speculated that Michael may have used the time to complete the brain surgery needed and there may have been a separate plan not shown in "The Final Break" that allowed him to both fake his death, keep the Company away from him, and help Sara break away.

"Prison Break" season 5 is set to follow Michael and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) in the continuation of their fight against the Company. Despite the fact that Michael is returning there is no confirmation that Sara will be featured. Fox has yet to officially announce the mini-series' cast list.
