'Narcos' season 2 news: New season to focus on the hunt for Escobar

Narcos Netflix

"Narcos" season 1 started roughly in 1989 and ended in circa 1992 when Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) was kept in the La Catedral prison. The real-life Escobar died during a shoot-out with the police in 1993, so while there is little time left, a report from Bustle states that there is still a lot of story to tell.

According to the report, the second season may focus a lot on the hunt for Escobar following his breakout from prison. His big breakout may already be the focus of a few episodes given that it was an armed assault that could have been portrayed as a climactic end for a different show.

However, the armed breakout may only onsume the opening episodes while the rest focus on Escobar securing his cocaine empire before his eventual death. The report also cites that the season may put emphasis on Escobar's worries about being extradited to the United States and the ensuing manhunt to find and kill him.

Since the season will presumably begin in 1992 and Escobar's death occurred in 1993, there will be a very limited time frame for the series to keep moving forward. It is explained that the pacing of the series will depend on how many seasons Netflix wants to keep producing.

If Netflix decides that the second season will end the series, then season 2 may eventually end with the shootout that led to Escobar's death. However, if another season is ordered, then the pace may be slowed down to instead focus on different aspects of the manhunt and Escobar's efforts to maintain his wealth while also running from the authorities.

Netflix has not yet officially given a premiere date for season 2; however, according to Vine Report, it is likely that the second season will be available on the streaming service by late summer or early fall 2016.
