Melissa Joan Hart Shares Why Donald Trump is Not the 'Christian Choice' for Her

"God's Not Dead 2" star Melissa Joan Hart once said she had no intention to cast a vote this November, considering that she's not a fan of either Republican or Democratic nominees Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, respectively. However, she changed her mind after meeting the Libertarian Party's Gary Johnson.

Hart tells The Blaze that she respects Johnson so much that she wants to "get the word out" about the third-party candidate.

"To me, true conservative ideals of just less government interference in our lives, he really stood for that," Hart says. "He has a good record, he has good temperament and he is someone who will listen to reason and make good decisions."

Hart would like to dismiss the notion that a vote for a third-party candidate is a useless vote. When she attended lunch for the Libertarian Party ticket, she overheard two women talking, "Oh, if it wasn't a wasted vote, I would totally vote for" Johnson.

A lot of people have said that to the actress, but she says that if everybody who thinks that way would only vote for Johnson, then he would at least win Connecticut. "So it's frustrating that everybody thinks it's a wasted vote but everyone wants that vote," she says.

"I just want to feel good about myself when I walk out of the voting place in November," she continues. "I just want to feel good about myself and not like I'm holding my breath and thinking, 'Did I do the wrong thing?' I want to walk out of there with my head held high."

In 2012, Hart was lambasted as a "moron" for supporting Republican Gov. Mitt Romney for president. She is getting the same flak now for refusing to back up Trump even though she is a Christian.

But Hart has her reasons. She doesn't even think Trump is pro-life, so her vote does not lie with him. She cannot understand why people continue to criticise Johnson for not knowing what Aleppo is, and yet forget Trump's mistake of referring to a book from the New Testament as "Two Corinthians."

"All those people who want to say he is the Christian choice, but I don't think he is for me," she says.
