'Looking' season 3 cancelled: Renewal not happening, HBO to wrap up with TV special

Looking HBO

The HBO series "Looking" is not going to get a season 3 renewal, much to the disappointment of its fans. However, according to the official announcement by the network, the series will wrap up with a TV special. No date for the special has been announced.

This TV special would conclude some of the hanging plot-threads coming from the season 2 finale. These include the rift between Dom and Doris as well as the conclusion of the love triangle of Patrick, Richie, and Kevin.

"After two years of following Patrick and his tight-knit group of friends as they explored San Francisco in search of love and lasting relationships, HBO will present the final chapter of their journey as a special. We look forward to sharing this adventure with the shows loyal fans," reads the official HBO post.

The HBO comedy initially started with just 308,000 viewers on its premiere episode. During its sixth week, the show earned its all-time high with only 519,000 viewers. Despite the low ratings, HBO gave "Looking" a season 2 renewal because of the positive response and growing fanbase. However, the season 2 premiere saw an even worse drop-off as the ratings declined to just 150,000 viewers.

In light of the official announcement, a new petition on ThePetitionSite has been launched in order to save the show. At the time of writing, the petition has already garnered over 26,200 signatures, just 800 short of its 27,000 goal.

The petition states that "Looking" was not only a show that was driven by the realities of the LGBT community but that it was a clear representation for gay viewers. It also served as a reminder for themselves, their family, and friends.

"Looking" stars Murray Bartlett, Frankie J. Alvarez, and Jonathan Groff as three gay friends trying to make a life in San Franscisco.
