'Jason Bourne' spoilers: Nicky's role expands

Matt Damon and Julia Stiles as Jason Bourne and Nicky Parsons Universal Pictures

"Jason Bourne," the fifth film in the long-running spy franchise starring Matt Damon in the titular role, will see Bourne reunite with agent Nicky Parsons, played by Julia Stiles. In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Stiles revealed that her character won't just be stuck in a CIA office as she will take part in the action this time around.

"It was really interesting what I got to do in terms of where we find Nicky. She's become more rebellious and dangerous. It was nice to see her outside of the office!" the actress explained, confirming that her character will get to do more this time around.

The statement also confirms that Nicky is still hiding from the CIA and the U.S. government following the events of "The Bourne Ultimatum." The film saw Nicky leave the agency and take a new identity after she willingly aided Bourne in his mission to shut down the secret spy-assassin program the CIA was running.

According to Cinema Blend, Stiles also stated that she is confirmed to play a big role in at least one action sequence that takes place in the beginning of the film. Described as a fast-paced car chase, it is undetermined if Nicky will make it out of the sequence alive.

However, it is pointed out that before this sequence takes place Nicky discovers shocking information regarding Jason Bourne and this is why she meets up with him. The trailer for the film indicates she was followed and now Bourne and Nicky flee the scene, leading to the aforementioned chase scene.

It is entirely possible that Nicky could die during the action sequence that takes place in the first arc of the film, not surviving the chase scene. But it is also speculated that Nicky might be able to make it and simply go back into hiding, allowing the rest of the film to focus on Bourne's journey to find the truth.

"Jason Bourne" opens in theaters on July 29.
