The fate of "Hart of Dixie" was up in the air for quite a while. However, just recently, The CW broke the news fans of the comedy drama feared to confront: its official cancellation. That is the reason why the season 4 finale felt like a series finale— it was crafted as one. The finale for its season 4 wrapped things up nicely for the lovable gang in Bluebell.

The news was not a shocker though. Previously, series creator Leila Gerstein repeatedly encouraged fans to catch the "final episodes," although some fans thought (or hoped) that she was pertaining to those of the season's and not the show's. Still, stars of the series have suggested the end of "Hart of Dixie" even back in October last year.

In a tweet, Wilson Bethel thanked his character, Wade Kinsella, "for these four wonderful years," shortly after filming the last episode of the show. He added, "It's been a mighty pleasure knowing you."

Scott Porter also said his goodbyes. In the words of the actor who played George Tucker, the "sun sets on BlueBell."

So it's official: "Hart of Dixie" signs off. Gerstein thanked the series' "amazing, inspiring fans" and admitted that they are "the real BlueBell." The stars of the series took time to express their gratitude to viewers who followed their adventures and misadventures in the endearing Alabama small town.

The fans, the cast, and the crew of the show may have bid farewell but everyone goes by one thing — "long live the hart."

Apart from "Hart of Dixie," The CW also axed the post-apocalyptic ensemble show "The Messengers." On the other hand, the network renewed a whole host of other series. "The 100," "Arrow," "Beauty and the Beast," "The Originals," "Reign," "Supernatural," "The Vampire Diaries", "The Flash" and "Jane the Virgin" are all getting another run.
