People often get cranky when they're placed in an uncomfortable situation. Many of us get cranky when someone wakes us up very early using a loud shout, some of us get cranky when the office coffee maker doesn't work, and a lot of us are likely become cranky when some noise is interrupting our sleep.

Oh yes, I must admit I get really cranky at that last situation there.

But did you know that we need to take charge of our moods and learn how to control our crankiness? The Bible tells us that it's very important to control our moods:

"He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city." (Proverbs 16:32)

That said, we should all be motivated to take control of our bad moods. Instead of getting carried away and doing things we will later regret, let's all learn to master our emotions. We can do it!

Bible verses to the rescue

To help in the fight to conquer our own emotions and turn our bad moods into feelings of rejoicing, here are some Bible verses that will instruct or encourage us.

We can rejoice in the Lord - Philippians 4:4-7

"Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

We can overcome the temptation to be cranky - Genesis 4:7

"If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it."

The Spirit of God helps us - Galatians 5:22-25

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit."

We can take every thought captive to Christ - 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."

We can let Christ rule in our hearts - Colossians 3:15-17

"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."
