The much-awaited return of CBS' hit detective drama series, "Elementary," is almost here, and the fans will soon learn about the latest updates in the lives of Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and his trusted ally, Joan Watson (Lucy Liu). The first episode of season 6 will give a brief refresher on the current relationship of Sherlock with Joan, although the viewers cannot expect the two to be as close as they were early in the series.

According to the official synopsis for "Elementary" season 6 episode 1, titled "An Infinite Capacity for Taking Pains," the duo of Sherlock and Joan will take on a special task concerning a socialite's missing ex-boyfriend. The heiress is willing to pay a lot of money just to locate the whereabouts of her former lover, although she is more concerned about her sex video taped many years ago. Sherlock and Joan's latest client believes that her ex-boyfriend could use the sex video against her to extort money, and he must be tracked down as soon as possible before the material circulates on the internet.

While the first case of "Elementary" season 6 seems interesting, there could be an awkward atmosphere between Sherlock and Joan. Per IBTimes, Sherlock's relationship with Joan remains strained, especially after the events of the previous season. The celebrity detective's current mental health condition would also not help in patching things up with Joan. As Sherlock continues to struggle with his addiction, he will find a new ally to help him overcome the latest challenge in his life.

At this point, Sherlock could find a new confidante through Michael (Desmond Harrington). With this, there will be less chance for Sherlock to rebuild his relationship with Joan, especially as Michael will try hard to gain Sherlock's trust. As reported by Deadline, Harrington's character will claim to repay Sherlock for helping him out with his own drug addiction. However, it appears that Michael has other things in mind and is just trying to use Sherlock's expertise for something sinister. In the end, Sherlock may still need Joan by his side as there is no one else they can trust besides each other.

"Elementary" season 6 episode 1 will air on Monday, April 30 at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
