Alvin Olinsky's (Elias Koteas) newfound daughter Michelle (Madison McLaughlin) will tangle up with Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) from "Chicago Fire" in the January crossover episode with "Chicago PD."

Co-creator Matt Olmstead first announced the crossover among the three Chicago shows and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" in August during the Television Critics Association fall previews. During that time, they were still planning the event to happen in February and it would reportedly include eight stories. TV Guide reports that prior to the debut of "Chicago Med," Olmstead and his crew have done three crossovers and that they have all been "daunting." The showrunner said that even though it was very difficult to do, the end results have been great and they would to do it again many times in the future.

Recently, executive producer Derek Haas posted a message on Twitter, stating that there would be a three-way crossover in the series in January. In his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Olmstead admitted that the creative team were still working on it and hinted on what viewers could expect for the upcoming episode. He said that it would explore the backstory of Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and his late wife.

"The one personal piece of storytelling it unearths is Voight's backstory with his late wife. We've established that she died years prior to when he appeared on Fire, but not the circumstances of her death and what Voight has to deal with in terms of dealing with that memory," he said.

The crossover would also explain Voight's close relationship with Detective Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush). Olmstead shared that Lindsay idolized Voight's better half and saw her as the embodiment of the perfect woman. Her mother was not exactly a good role model for her and Mrs. Voight fit the bill of a good mom figure. When she died, Lindsay also took it hard, which could explain why she understood Voight the most among the group.

Meanwhile, Fashion & Style reports that Dawson will try to help out Olinsky's daughter, but the latter would not take kindly to her ministrations. The younger woman would see the agent's offer of help as intrusion to her private life. It is still unclear what incident will turn these two against each other, so viewers will have to wait until January to find out.

"Chicago PD" season 3 will return with fresh episodes on Jan. 6, 2016 on NBC.
