'Charmed' reboot cast news: Madeleine Mantock joins series as the final Halliwell sister

The CW's "Charmed" reboot has just finished casting the new Halliwell sisters this week with Madeleine Mantock the latest one to board the cast.

Mantock, who starred in "Into the Badlands" and "The Tomorrow People," will take on the role of the eldest sister, Marcy. Dubbed as the new Prue (Shannon Doherty) of the group, Marcy is described by TV Line as a "practical, driven, and brilliant geneticist" who is shocked to the core upon learning about the existence of the supernatural world.

Mantock joins Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffrey who will portray Marcy's other sisters, Mel and Madison, respectively.

Replacing Holly Marie Combs' Piper, Mel will be the new middle sister who also happens to be a lesbian and an outspoken activist. She marks the first queer lead character in the "Charmed" universe. As The Mary Sue noted, the original show only featured three minor LGBT characters all in season 7, including the lesbian couple Carly (Shelby Fenner) and Brenda (Bre Blair), and the film critic and Bay Mirror employee Phil (Tom Schmidt).

Meanwhile, the youngest sister will be Madison. She is a college freshman who is not exactly thrilled to be a witch as it interferes with her goal of getting into a campus sorority of her choice. The character seems to have the same fun-loving personality of Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) in "Charmed's" early years.

The CW's reboot has been in the works for more than a year now. While most fans are excited about the network's new take on the cult classic, original star Combs has had a less-than-stellar reception to the network's plans.

"Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern did weekly don't even think of capitalizing on our hard work," she wrote on Twitter after the reboot's announcement. "Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp."

"Charmed" has no official release date yet but it has been ordered for the 2018/2019 season.
