Bethany Hamilton, the pro-surfer who lost her left arm in a shark attack, has married Adam Dirks.

Hamilton, a devout Christian, tied the knot with Dirks on Kauai's north shore in Hawaii at the weekend.

"Today was the most beautiful, wonderful best day of my life! God is more than good(: Excited to live life with my husband Adam Dirks!" she said.

Hamilton delighted fans with the announcement of her engagement to Dirks just a few months ago on her blog.

Dirks popped the question on April 9, around a year after they were introduced to each other by friends.

"He is genuine, kind, fun, adventurous, easy going, friendly to all, passionate for Christ and just a great guy over all! …and he liked me too!" Hamilton said of Dirks at the time.

Hamilton lost her left arm when she was attacked by a shark in 2003.  She won the admiration of people around the world with her determination not to let it hold her back from her great passion, surfing.

She returned to competitive surfing just over two months later and her inspirational story was turned into the hit movie Soul Surfer starring AnnaSophia Robb.
