'Avatar 2' release date delay latest news: James Cameron explains reasons for huge gap between films

"Avatar 2" director James Cameron recently explained the reason behind the decade-long gap between the film and its predecessor. The second installment of his sci-fi masterpiece is set to be released on 2020 as a standalone sequel to his first film.

In an interview with CNN, Cameron stated, ''It was a seven year gap between 'The Terminator' and 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day,' seven year gap between 'Alien' and 'Aliens.' He added that a lot of the delay has been around creating that overall vision.

That vision was conceived way back in the 90s after the success of "Titanic." However due to technological constraints, it would take another decade for him to realize this with the release of "Avatar" in 2009.

However, since the film hit the billion-dollar mark, many have been eager to see the continuation of the story. It seems that the 62-year old director is not in any rush to create a sequel.

Anyone who knows James Cameron knows exactly why it is taking too long. Not just for "Avatar 2," but for every feature film worthy to bear his name as director.

For a director with a career spanning 39 years, it seems underwhelming that he only has eight feature films to his name. That is until people see the names "Titanic," "Aliens," "Terminator 2: Judgement Day," and, of course, "Avatar."

According to Screen Rant, Cameron is the type of director who likes to take his time. He has vision and if it cannot be met, things like deadline and budgets go out the window.

This is exactly what happened with "Titanic" and "Avatar," two of the highest grossing films of all time. In hindsight, it was all worth it but at the time, producers must have considered it crazy.

Whatever Cameron has in store for "Avatar 2," fans will just have to wait till 2020 to find out what it is.
