'Arrow' season 5 cast, release date: Curtis's role will be bigger

Team Arrow expands with Curtis (Echo Kellum) officially joining the squad come "Arrow" season 5. Kellum will be a series regular in the new season of the DC Comics adaptation.

Although he is the new tech guy around, Felicity (Emily Bett-Rickards) will still be very well part of the team simply because Curtis will have a very specific task to fulfill.

"Essentially, if she's software, he's hardware," executive producer Wendy Mericle explained to TV Line on Curtis' role in "Arrow" season 5.

"As he evolves into becoming Mr. Terrific in season 5, one of the things we're really exploring is differentiating them by having Curtis be more like Cisco (Carlos Valdes) on The Flash," she went on to say.

Since Cisco is the one building the tech for Team Flash (he was the one who built Barry's costume), Curtis is expected to do the same in "Arrow" season 5. "We want him to be a bit more hands-on, a little more about building physical tech," Mericle said.

In "Arrow" season 5, fans should also see more of the quip-filled and fun friendship between Felicity and Curtis. Better yet, it will also be a chance for the tech expert and Oliver (Stephen Amell) to get to know each other better.

It remains to be seen how Curtis will evolve as Mr. Terrific in "Arrow" season 5, but it is certainly one of the transformations highly-anticipated by fans.

In the comics, Mr. Terrific was once the chairman of the Justice Society of America, which, as fans know, will be featured heavily in the second season of "Legends of Tomorrow."

As for Oliver, Amell said in a Facebook livestream that "Arrow" season 5 will see the archer donning a "slightly modified version" of the suit.

There will be a whole lot of new characters, the latest being "The McCarthys" star Tyler Ritter, who will play the role of Star City's new police officer Detective Malone.

"Arrow" season 5 premieres Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
