Anderson Silva leg break VIDEO: Injury witnessed by millions, Chris Weidman retains UFC title

Anderson Silva lost the UFC 168 fight against Chris Weidman last night after suffering a horrific leg injury in front of horrified spectators.

Silva broke his left libia in front of millions of fans during the championship fight which was broadcast live to millions of people around the world.

He broke his shin when he attempted to kick opponent Weidman, who blocked it with his knee. Close-up photos show Silva's shin breaking, and nearby spectators were able to hear the cracking of the bone.

The former champion was screaming in pain as he was carried out from the fighting ring in a stretcher.

Last night's fight was a rematch against Chris Weidman, whom he lost to back in July.

Weidman later told reporters that he had been training to avoid Silva's powerful leg kicks. "We trained checking the kick a lot. The idea is to pull your leg and for their shin to land at the knee. That's exactly what I did, and I felt his leg go right away."

He also added, "To break someone's leg, I've never done that before. I didn't want to see Anderson get hurt like that."

Weidman's knock out of Silva earlier this year turned many heads in the UFC, but many were not convinced believing it to be somewhat of a fluke. However, after last night's horrific injury, Weidman defeated Silva for the second time in 2013, retaining the UFC belt.
