While positive reviews were raked in for its first and second seasons, fans are still waiting for CBS to announce whether or not a season three is in store for "Under the Dome." As such, while certain speculations are pointing toward the possibility that the series will return for a third season, other rumors are suggesting that it may be cancelled instead.
The sci-fi drama TV series is based on Stephen King's novel of the same name, and premiered in June 2013 on CBS. "Under the Dome" follows the story of the people living in a small town in Maine called Chester's Mill, who are trapped inside an unseen yet incredibly large and indestructible dome.
The story gets more interesting as the residents who are cut off from the world struggle to survive while losing their resources and experiencing tensions in relationships. As the authorities attempt to break the dome down, a small team of individuals seek to find out more about the dome, how it came about, and how they can put an end to it.
Cast members include Mike Vogel from the horror movie "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," Rachelle Lefevre from the TV drama-comedy "Boston Legal" and the first two movies of the "Twilight" film series, Natalie Martinez from crime drama "Detroit 1-8-7," and Brittany Robertson from "Scream 4."
Other members of the cast include Alexander Koch, Nicholas Strong, Colin Ford, Mackenzie Lintz, Jolene Purdy, Aisha Hinds, Dean Norris, Eddie Cahill, and Karla Crome.
While the first season pulled in impressive ratings, "Under the Dome" season two did not perform as well with which ratings considerably dropped. Nonetheless, the series remained to be the network's highest-rated scripted series this summer.
Moreover, CBS President and CEO Les Moonves announced that, despite a decline in ratings, "Under the Dome" still managed to rake in $2.5 million per episode.
