The movie adaptation of "The Last of Us" will reportedly remain "pretty faithful to the game" despite the "big changes" that will come its way, Neil Druckmann stated.

Druckmann, the game director and scriptwriter for the film, shared the latest updates of the project during an interview with the Game Informer.

"I just finished a second draft, and we did a table read with a bunch of actors," the writer stated. "Pretty faithful to the game. There are some big changes, but the tone and what the story's trying to say is pretty faithful to the game."

Druckmann's hands are filled with several tasks all at the same time. According to the game director, he is juggling his time writing the plot of the highly anticipated game "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" while he is at the office, and his free time is spent on the script of "The Last of Us" movie.

The critically acclaimed action-adventure survival horror game was initially launched on PlayStation 3 edition on June 2013. Since then, it was widely received by critics and players alike for its superb writing, sound and level design, voice acting, art direction, as well as music choices.

"The Last of Us" deals with the adventures of Joel and young girl Ellie two decades after the outbreak of a mutated Cordyceps fungus affected the entire United States. The duo travel from one place to another to be able to reach the anti-quarantine group called the Fireflies to be able to create an antidote using Ellie's immunity to the infection.

Earlier reports about "The Last of Us" movie stated that "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams is willing to portray the role of Ellie in the film, but there are no confirmations yet if the British actress already got the coveted role. Meanwhile, the production is still looking for the actor who will portray the lead role of Joel.

The rest of the casting and release date details for "The Last of Us" movie adaptation is still undisclosed.
