Premier Christian Radio has announced that it will give its full backing to the Make Poverty History campaign, and in particular will be providing their listeners with a live broadcast to the highly publicised Live 8 and G8 Summit.
The UK’s most prominent Christian radio station, in efforts to connect its listeners that cannot make the Live 8 concert in Hyde Park or Edinburgh, will transmit live a special ‘Premier 8’ show on July 2nd 2005. The show will feature both G8 and Live 8 focused interviews and will offer live tracks from leading Christian music artists and bands.
World-renowned artists such as Matt Redman, Daniel O’Donnell and Kate Simmonds have been touted as people that will publicly declare their support for the Make Poverty History campaign with Premier Radio. In addition to this the G8 issues for the Summit will be discussed in depth.
Matt Redman testified to Premier Radio, "This [Make Poverty History] is clearly something that is on not just the heart of the nation, but also on the heart of God and something that if we get involved with, isn’t just doing a good thing for people it’s actually an act of Worship towards God."
Commencing at 11 a.m. on 2nd July, Premier 8 will broadcast for 8 consecutive hours. However, Premier has also been quick to promote to its listeners that reporting on the events as they unfold will begin as early as 6 a.m. as live feeds will be transmitted back from Edinburgh – allowing a Christian view to be given on the huge G8 protest march.
Throughout the day, many Church leaders and a host of artists will step forward to speak on the issues surrounding the Make Poverty History campaign. The author and speaker, Bishop Wayne Malcolm commented, "We’re really making a statement, a statement that needs to be heard loud and clear. I think Jesus left us a great example, he did this through his ministry, through his message, it’s a natural human response to want to alleviate poverty and I think Christians especially, having the spirit of Christ and the example Christ left us should be very concerned about alleviating poverty."
The full interview line up for Premier 8 will include; Matt Redman, Daniel O’Donnell, Leslie Griffiths, Noel Treddinick, Lou Fellingham, Paul Oakley, Graham Kendrick, Madeleine Kerzner, Bishop Wayne Malcolm, Sue Rinaldi and Kate Simmonds.
