Over 2000 to Gather for Annual Church of Scotland Guild Meeting

The city of Dundee will this weekend welcome over 2000 members of the Church of Scotland Guild, one of Scotland's largest voluntary organisations, as they gather for their annual meeting on Saturday 25 August.

The National Convener, Ann Bowie, from Moray will chair the day's exciting events and launch the new theme of the Guild's Let's Live: body, mind and soul strategy - Think on these Things. The new theme emphasises Jesus' challenge to us to learn, teach and think things through.

An influential diary of speakers includes the popular BBC Radio 2 broadcaster Janey Lee Grace, best-known as co-presenter of the Steve Wright In The Afternoon BBC Radio 2 programme and as a regular guest on Channel 5's The Wright Stuff.

Grace will bring a Christian perspective to environmental issues and will argue that for every environmentally unfriendly product we use there is an easily available eco-friendly alternative.

The Rt Rev Sheilagh Kesting, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, will continue the theme of using the mind in her address when she will call on members to use their intellectual powers and not be afraid of grappling with the tough questions of life or engaging with differing views.

She will claim that, "Security in one's own tradition is no longer to be found by rubbishing someone else's".

Other important features of the day include a full presentation of the forthcoming Guild Week in November 2007, a report from the Guild's General Secretary, Alison Twaddle, on her recent trip to India and a unique drama presentation performed by Guild members which will showcase the work of the Guild committees.

With around 35,000 members, the Guild is an important and unique voluntary organisation in Scotland and its members play a key role in supporting disadvantaged communities and individuals at home and abroad.
