OS X Yosemite release date; Gold Master version to launch Oct. 10?

OS X 10.10 Yosemite is still currently in Beta version.

Apple had long announced that the 11th major version of OS X will be launched this fall, but it has yet to reveal the official OS X Yosemite (version 10.10) release date. The company will have a press event on Sept. 9, and it is unknown whether this will include the launching of the new OS.

Last July, a report by 9to5mac revealed the possibility of the Cupertino-based tech giant giving final details about the new OS X in its media event, as it did the previous year. The report, however, assumed that a media event would take place in October rather than September. Nevertheless, the company could still provide reporters with official updates about the new OS this coming week, along with the introduction of its new line of products.

According to the online publication's sources, a final developer preview will be seeded on Sept. 29, and it will release a golden master build sometime around Oct. 10, after which it will release the new version for free download by end of October.

Developers had a first look at the OS last June 2, and the first public beta was made available to one million users on July 24. The most recent developer preview, OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 7, was released last Sept. 2.

OS X Yosemite has many new features including better integration between Macs and iOS devices like iPhones and iPads as well as an updated version of Spotlight, translucency, improvements on Safari, and more. Mac users will notice many differences between the new OS and its predecessors, but it's expected that it will still continue to feature the unique Mac experience.
