NVIDIA Pascal release date news, price: GTX 1080 is a sell out in minutes on pre-orders; GTX 1070 beats GTX TITAN X in speed

Fans are very eager to learn more about the latest NVIDIA Pascal-based graphics cards, the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070, in terms of performance. Early reports were more about the higher model, the GTX 1080, which was sold out in a few minutes when pre-orders opened. Now, more information is beginning to unravel about the GTX 1070. The 3DMark test showed that it may not be as fast as the premium model but is generally faster than the GTX TITAN X.

Pre-orders are very common nowadays, and this does not exempt the NVIDIA GTX 1080. Online retailers know good opportunities, and this is one of them. Newegg, BestBuy and Amazon all offered pre-order options for the upcoming GTX 1080 and they were never wrong. The latest and most powerful video gaming card was selling like hotcakes and all stocks from these online retailers were gone in a matter of minutes, according to a report by TechTimes.

Amazon started pre-selling the EVGA GTX 1080 last May 20, and it went out-of-stock after 6 minutes, while ZOTAC's version lasted for 12 minutes before stocks went out. Even the NVIDIA's own online store ran out video cards.

Going now to the GTX 1070, VideoCardz reported that the new GPU performs slightly faster than the GTX TITAN X, GTX 980 Ti and Fury X during a 3DMark FireStrike bench test. Performance on different resolutions such as 1080 p, 1440p and 2160p all resulted in a 100 percent performance rating. A graphic test was also given to the card and gave scores of 17557 on FireStrike Performance test, 8327 FireStrike Extreme test and 4078 on FireStrike Ultra test.

The GTX TITAN X scored 97 percent average, while the GTX 980Ti and AMD Radeon R9 Fury X both scored 95 percent average, all on the resolution performance test. The top post belongs to the GTX 1080, which has an average score of 124 percent.

The NVIDIA GTX 1080 Founders Edition has a price of US$699 while standard variants will have a US$599 starting price. It will be released on May 27. The NVIDIA GTX 1070 Founders Edition will have a US$499 price tag, while the standard model will start at US$379, with a release date of June 10.
