A new training event designed for church-based student workers has been developed by Spring Harvest in conjunction with student support group Fusion.

The event will take place at the London School of Theology from the 8th-10th of September. The Student Work Conference is meant to satisfy the perceived needs of churches in the areas of sending, receiving and reaching students.

According to Fusion, student ministry is “about 25 years behind youth ministry.” Furthermore because of the nature and concentration of students, student ministry must, “grow substantially for there to be an ongoing reaching of 2 million students,” according to the Fusion website.

According to organisers of the conference there is a need to recognise, “that student work has a very different emphasis and application to youth work and specific student worker training is a growing need in churches.”

Main sessions for worship and prayer, focusing on the big picture and broad challenges of student work today, will be included in the conference. “Training tracks” looking at specific issues, like the basics of student work, student discipleship and student mission, will also be included.

There will also be a time to for people to share and discuss key topics in “learning circles.”

The conference is desingned for any full-time, part-time and volunteer church-based student workers and student teams. There will be teaching and music ministry from Rich Wilson, Pete Broadbent, Jamie Haith, Roger Ellis, Ellie Armstrong and more.
