Late last month, Motorola Mobility unveiled its new Moto X Style and Moto X Play as successors to last year's Moto X (2nd Gen) handset. The Moto X Play is expected to be available this month, while the Moto X Style, also known as the Pure Edition in the United States, is expected to come out sometime next month, according to GSM Arena.

In addition, Motorola also recently unveiled another handset as a successor to last year's Moto G (2nd Gen). Called the Moto G (3^rd Gen), this phone is now available in the market.

Here's the difference between the new Moto G smartphone and its predecessor in terms of the specifications and improvements.

In terms of the screen size, both phones sport the same 5.0-inch IPS LCD display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolutions. They are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and have the same 294 pixels per inch (ppi) density.

For the cameras, the previous model has an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel camera on the front. Motorola upgraded the cameras for the new phone to 13 megapixels (primary) and 5 megapixels (secondary).

Under the hood, the Moto G (2nd Gen) packs a Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 processor along with only 1GB RAM and up to 8GB built-in memory storage. On the other hand, the new Moto G (3rd Gen) runs on Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 processor, a 2GB RAM, and up to 16GB internal memory. According to GSM Arena, the new phone is also available in 1GB RAM and 8GB memory variant, like its predecessor.

The previous Moto G comes with a non-removable 2,070 mAh battery. This time, Motorola slightly increased the battery for the new Moto G to 2,470 mAh. According to a recent review by Droid Life, the battery life for the Moto G (3^rd Gen) can last up to almost 16 hours when using with Long-Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity alone.
