CAFOD has joined with nine other national charities to promote 'Free Wills Fortnight', a scheme which offers supporters the chance to make their will make a difference - for free.

Free Wills Fortnight is running from May 18 to 31 and gives members of the public aged 55 and over the opportunity to have their wills written or updated by participating local solicitors, free of charge.

This offer is available in twelve areas across England and Wales, including Blackpool, Cardiff, Coventry, Darlington, Durham, Eastbourne, Ipswich, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Gateshead, North Wales, Southampton, Worcester and York.

There is no obligation to leave a gift to any of the organisations involved, although this could be the perfect opportunity to put affairs in order and help a favourite cause at the same time.

At CAFOD, for example, legacies fund more than fifth of our overseas work. So a gift in a will, no matter how large or small, could make an enormous difference to communities living in poverty.

CAFOD's Legacy Information Officer, Beth Brook, says: "By being a part of Free Wills Fortnight, we're hoping we'll be able to offer parishioners a chance to gain peace of mind and save money at the same time.

"CAFOD owes so much to the Catholic community that it's wonderful to be able to give something back; especially to those who might otherwise put off writing their will because they're worried about the expense.

She added: "Without a will, there's no guarantee that your lifetime of hard work will go to benefit the people and causes you really care about; so please take advantage of this great opportunity to make your will and make a difference - for free!"
