It seems like all the efforts made by "Longmire" fans to extend the life of the series after Netflix revealed that they are pleased with the show's performance during its fourth season. This prompted the streaming service provider to greenlight the show's fifth season.

During the recently concluded Television Critics Association's press winter tour, Netflix's Head of Content Acquisition Ted Sarandos revealed that they are happy with the turnout of "Longmire" season 4.

After a month of releasing the fourth season of the crime drama adaptation of Craig Johnson's popular "Walt Longmire Mysteries" novels on Sept. 10, 2015, Netflix already announced that they are renewing the show for season 5 through the show's official Facebook page.

"Longmire" was originally broadcasted on A&E during its first three seasons. But the cable network decided to cancel the show after the season 3 finale in August 2014 even if the show got positive reviews from critics and high viewership ratings. The network claimed that the show did not fit the network's target demographics.

Warner Horizon Television acted on the fans' ardent requests to bring back the show and shopped for another venue to air "Longmire" season 4. Netflix picked up the series in November 2014.

Since "Longmire" season 4 started on Netflix, more mature audiences started to subscribe to the web streaming service provider. Speculations claim that these new sets of subscribers may continue their subscription even if the series ends after season 5.

Meanwhile, the plot of "Longmire" season 5 is still being kept under wraps. There are no details yet regarding the casting of the show, but Robert Taylor is expected to reprise his role as Absaroka County sheriff Walt Longmire in the upcoming season.

The official release date of "Longmire" season 5 is still unrevealed, but the show is expected to be released on Netflix in Sept. 2016.
