"Longmire" season 4 has gone through a rough road to see the light of day. Originally shown on A&E in 2012, the series ran for three seasons until the network cancelled it because it wasn't "profitable." Netflix came in to save the day but kept the lid on its production for a long time. Now, the streaming service has finally revealed season 4's premiere date. 

During the TCA Press Tour, Netflix announced that the fourth season will premiere on Sept. 10. This means there is just a little over a month left for fans to wait before the fourth season finally becomes available. While waiting, all three previous seasons are available on Netflix, allowing fans and newcomers to binge-watch the series from start to end. 

According to a report from Deadline, Netflix also confirmed that season 4 will pick up moments after the cliffhanger ending of season 3 where Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor) learned who killed his wife and was setting out to exact vengeance when Barlow (Gerald McRaney) and Branch (Bailey Chase) got into a fight and a gunshot was heard.

Executive producer Greer Shephard also revealed that season 4 will explore more than just Walt Longmire's quest for vengance. 

"Season 4 is about second chances. Who you are as a person is defined by how you handle the second chance. Netflix has incorporated that theme in their campaign," he explained. "Now that Walt knows the murderer of his wife, how does he go on? With Henry, he has a new-found freedom, what does he do with it?" 

Shephard also revealed that the next season will explore storylines revolving around crimes and Native Americans on their land preservations. This seems larger in scale but Shephard revealed that Netflix told the "Longmire" team that they have the freedom to make the show more cinematic instead of just "making it for TV."
