A new integrated communications project has been launched ahead of the World Council of Churches’ (WCC) 9th Assembly, which will take place in February 2006 in Brazil.
The project entitled, “Keeping the Faith” is looking to convey the vitality of the ecumenical movement today, and clearly reveal that the ecumenical movement is a reality for people and congregations around the world who live their lives on a daily basis.Included in the launch of the project will be included a mobile exhibit, photo essays, a book and a website. The various elements of the project will look to explore the reality of the living church in highly varied cultural contexts. In particular they will focus on:
- The reality of people,
- Their faith and their communities,
- Engaging in dialogue,
- Working in mission,
- Praying together,
- Facing conflict and violence,
- Poverty and illness,
- Responding to a rapidly changing world.
The project organisers have testified that through the initiative it will clearly be revealed the immense spiritual riches and cultural diversity of the ecumenical movement and the Christian world.
The project has been attracting and involving a number of journalists and editors from the secular and religious media, as well as communicators from the WCC member churches and ecumenical partner organisations, congregations and communities.
The project will centre around the mobile exhibition, which will consist of approximately 4-55 2m-high panels that will be on display in Porto Alegre during the WCC 9th Assembly.
In addition other WCC partners are invited to host their exhibitions to highlight and promote their own contexts in the years following the assembly.
