VIENNA (Reuters) - Aston Villa goalkeeper Scott Carson will make his England debut in Friday's friendly against Austria.

Carson, who is on loan from Liverpool, is joined in the team by David Beckham who returns to England's midfield after a four-game absence.

"I've wanted to have a look at Scott for a long time and I think he's deserved this after his performances for the under-21s," McClaren told reporters on Thursday.

"I have the goalkeeper for next Wednesday in my mind but you'll find out who that is next week."

Friday's game is a warm-up for England's final Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia at Wembley.

McClaren also recalled Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard at the expense of Carson's Villa team mate Gareth Barry.

"I want to have a look at (Steven) Gerrard and Lampard (together) again, which is no slight against Barry who has been excellent for us," said the coach.

McClaren, whose team can only qualify for Euro 2008 if other Group E results go their way, faced renewed questions over his future.

"It's all our faults...but it's my responsibility," he said when asked who was to blame.

"But as I've said all week the campaign is not over and I still believe Wednesday will be the crunch game."

Group leaders Croatia will seal qualification by taking a point in Macedonia on Saturday while Russia can virtually clinch their place in the finals with a victory in Israel.

Austria team (probable): Macho, Garics, Stranzl, Schiemer, Gercaliu, Aufhauser, Sariyar, Standfest, Ivanschitz, Weissenberger, Kuljic.

England: Carson, Richards, Campbell, Lescott, Bridge, Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, J Cole, Owen, Crouch.
