iOS 10 release date: Barbra Streisand dropped a big clue

 Apple

iOS 10 is expected to come out this month, but speculations about the mobile operating system continue to circulate online.

Pocket-lint reported that singer-actress Barbra Streisand appeared to have leaked the official release date of Apple's next iOS update.

In a NPR radio interview in August, Streisand casually revealed that she was annoyed at the way Apple's virtual assistant Siri announced her surname since it was released in 2011. According to the music legend, Siri tends to pronounce her surname with a "Z," but it was supposed to be read with an "S." So Streisand decided to act on it by calling Apple CEO Tim Cook, who promised her to fix the problem.

"I called the head of Apple, Tim Cook. And he delightfully agreed to have Siri change the pronunciation of my name finally with the next update on September 30th," Streisand said during the interview.

However, other reports claimed that the new version of Apple's mobile operating system could possibly arrive earlier than Streisand's claim. Since the rumored iPhone 7 is expected to be shipped sometime between Sept. 16 to Sept. 23, it means that the Cupertino-based tech firm should be prepared to unveil the new iOS around the same time.

Meanwhile, the speculated new features that will be introduced with the release of iOS 10 include a set on new emojis like female athletes and a water pistols, a redesigned lock screen with notifications that also reply whenever Apple's signature Force Touch is used, a new look on the devices' control center, as well as the addition of face recognition for photos using the devices' built-in Photos app, among others.

Aside from the rumored iPhone 7, the iOS 10 will be released as a free update on other Apple products like the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPad Pro 12.9-inch, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad 4th gen, iPad mini 4, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, as well as the iPod Touch 6th gen.
