'Gears Of War 4' release date: Easter egg treat for gamers as well as freebies for a limited time

Gears of War 4 - limited promo giving all previous games for free Microsoft Studios

"Gears of War 4" is one of the highly anticipated shooter games this year and like many games, it contains Easter eggs. Upon its release, the game will also bring in freebies that gamers will surely enjoy.

The Coalition boss Rod Fergusson recently announced on Twitter that fans can look forward to an Easter Egg in the game. Its caption says, "We may have just created my favorite Easter Egg in Gears 4. I hope you find it!" However, he didn't give any other details about it or why he said it's his favorite.

Additionally, Microsoft Studios, the game publisher, announced last week that fans picking up a digital or retail copy of their upcoming game before 2016 ends will have the previous versions of "Gears of War" for the Xbox 360 for free. These include "Gears of War" (2006), "Gears of War 2" (2008), "Gears of War 3 (2011)," and "Gears of War: Judgment" (2013). The games will be playable on the Xbox One via its Backward Compatibility feature, GameSpot reported.

The report also mentioned that the promo will end by Dec. 31 and will require around 32GB of free space for the free games to be installed and playable. Eligible players will receive a message via the Xbox Live messenger when the games are available for download, and they will offered in different batches so as not to stress the download servers.

The upcoming game is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, which means players opting for a digital copy on the Xbox will have the PC version for free and vice versa. Gamer's achievements will also be available on both platforms.  This will give the flexiblity that players may be looking for in the past.

"Gears of War 4" takes place 25 years after the story ended in the last game and will be featuring JD Fenix as the main protagonist, who is Marcus Fenix's son. JD will now lead the humans against a new threat and against the Coalition of Ordered Governments or COG.

"Gears of War 4" will launch on Oct. 11 and will be available for the Xbox One and PC.
