After getting baptised by Hillsong Church in a teammate's swimming pool, international football star David Luiz, 28 has vowed to wait until marriage before having sex.

He shared the baptismal photo on his Instagram account (@davidluiz_4) and captioned it with the Bible verse 2 Corinthians 5:17 that says: "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new."

Luiz added: "How wonderful to live with you Lord , thank You for loving me so much and take care of me! My life is yours, and I am your servant! What're always in the center of all my decisions! I love my God! Amen."

He is currently in a relationship with girlfriend Sara Madeira but the football player says he has "chosen to wait" until they get married before they have sex. Luiz said that he finds inspiration from his teammate from Brazil, Ricardo Kaká, 33, who also took the vow of celibacy before he got married when he was 23.

"The majority of people say that after marriage, they don't like jumping into bed with their partner because there is no desire. However, this is not true, my wife is the person I love and it was worth waiting," said Kaká. He believes that people need to stop themselves from making love before marriage.

"Of course, everyone has their own opinions but I think it was worth the wait," he added.

According to Luiz, Kaká inspires him "both on and off the pitch," adding that their Christian faith "gives him the belief that I can go out and perform and improve as a player. It gives me strength and inspiration."
