Church of Wales Issues New Pack to Strengthen Spiritual Life

The Church of Wales has issued a teaching pack in an attempt to strengthen the spiritual life and practical commitment to God by parishioners.

The ‘Rule of Life’ Teaching Pack material is in both Welsh and English and includes Rule of Life cards, posters and daily prayer bookmarks.

Rule of Life is based loosely on the Rule of St Benedict and is designed to cover prayer, study, service and community life.

Canon Robert Paterson, Principal Officer of the Council for Mission and Ministry in the Church of Wales said: “Because spiritual life and practical commitment by members of the Church in Wales may not be as strong as we wish it to be, we are attempting to help each one of us at all levels – from parishioner to Archbishop – to be more self-disciplined in our Christian discipleship.”

At the Church of Wales Governing body’s two-day meeting in Lampeter last week, the Archbishop of Wales, the Most Rev. Dr. Barry Morgan, told the gathered members to implement a ‘rule of life’ for non-believers to follow.

In addition he also concluded that members of the Church needed to be “transformed as persons so that people can see in us some transformation so that they too will want to be drawn into that kind of life.”
