Christians Are Called to Do These 3 Things in the Midst of Injustice

There are countless injustices happening all around the world, and we, as Christians, must realise that we have a role to play and a task to keep on this matter. We as God's people – His children – are called to do things that will bring the Kingdom of God here on earth.

Romans 8:19 tells us that all of "creation waits eagerly for the sons of God to be revealed."

If we are in Christ, we are God's sons and daughters, and all of creation is waiting for us to be revealed—to be awakened unto our identity and calling in God, and to rise up to declare the works of the Lord our God who reigns in the heavens.

It's Our Time to Rise Up

The Lord Jesus might have ascended into heaven, but He did commission us to preach the gospel to all of creation, and gave us the His Holy Spirit to empower us to do it. Preaching the gospel means more than just preaching on a Sunday morning, or spending an hour a week in discipleship talking about getting more people to come and stuff like that. Preaching the gospel means bringing Christ into all the earth.

It pains me to hear stories about Christians getting killed and persecuted for their faith in certain parts of the world, but it hurts even more when other Christians compromise to "blend in with the culture," fearing rejection. It angers me to hear members go out of church disillusioned because a church leader is abusive, even more when the leader is unrepentant. It saddens me when I hear of Christians doing nothing while unsaved people are killed without hearing the gospel.

Brothers, their blood is on our heads.

In the same way that Christ stood for us people who are totally deserving of God's wrath, we must learn to stand for those whom God loves. If Christ gave His life for us unworthy people, we who live for Him must be ready to give our lives to bring His love to all who don't know Him.

The Bible is chock-full of instructions about what Christians should be doing in times of injustice. Are we doing them? Maybe we aren't because we don't know them. Here are but some of the things God wants His people to do in such cases.

1. Speak Up for Those Who Can't Speak Up for Themselves

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice." (Proverbs 31:8-9)

"He will rescue the poor when they cry to him; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them." (Psalm 72:12)

2. Stand Up for Justice

"Let true justice prevail, so you may live and occupy the land that the Lord your God is giving you." (Deuteronomy 16:20)

"Do not twist justice in legal matters by favouring the poor or being partial to the rich and powerful. Always judge people fairly." (Leviticus 19:15)

"This is what the Lord of Heaven's Armies says: Judge fairly, and show mercy and kindness to one another." (Zechariah 7:9)

3. Cry Out for the Oppressed

"Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow." (Isaiah 1:17)

"Do not oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and the poor. And do not scheme against each other." (Zechariah 7:10)
